And this [is] the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, [that were] males, [even] all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.

4. 5బయలుదేరిన పురుషులందరు సున్నతి పొందినవారే కాని ఐగుప్తులో నుండి బయలుదేరిన తరువాత అరణ్యమార్గమందు పుట్టిన వారిలో ఎవరును సున్నతి పొందియుండలేదు.
5. 6యెహోవా మనకు ఏ దేశమును ఇచ్చెదనని వారి పితరులతో ప్రమా ణముచేసెనో, పాలు తేనెలు ప్రవహించు ఆ దేశమును తాను వారికి చూపింపనని యెహోవా ప్రమాణము చేసి యుండెను గనుక ఐగుప్తులోనుండి వచ్చిన ఆ యోధు లందరు యెహోవా మాట వినకపోయినందున వారు నశించువరకు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు నలువది సంవత్సరములు అరణ్యములో సంచరించుచు వచ్చిరి.
