20హాయివారు వెనుక వైపు తిరిగి చూచినప్పుడు ఆ పట్టణముయొక్క పొగ ఆకాశమున కెక్కుచుండెను. అప్పుడు అరణ్యమునకు పారిపోయిన జనులు తిరిగి తమ్మును తరుముచున్న వారి మీద పడుచుండిరి గనుక ఈ తట్టయినను ఆ తట్టయినను పారిపోవుటకు వారికి వీలులేక పోయెను.
21పొంచియున్నవారు పట్టణమును పట్టుకొనియుండుటయు పట్టణపు పొగ యెక్కుచుండు టయు యెహోషువయు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరును చూచి నప్పుడు వారు తిరిగి హాయివారిని హతము చేసిరి.
22తక్కిన వారును పట్టణములోనుండి బయలుదేరి వారికి ఎదురుగా వచ్చిరి. అట్లు ఈ తట్టు కొందరు ఆ తట్టు కొందరు ఉండగా హాయివారు ఇశ్రాయేలీయుల నడుమ చిక్కుబడిరి గనుక ఇశ్రాయేలీయులు వారిని హతముచేసిరి. వారిలో ఒకడును మిగులలేదు; ఒకడును తప్పించుకొనలేదు.
23వారు హాయి రాజును ప్రాణముతో పట్టుకొని యెహోషువయొద్దకు తీసికొనివచ్చిరి.
