1. 1ಒಂದು ವರುಷ ಕಳೆದ ತರುವಾಯ ಅರಸುಗಳು ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊರಡುವಾಗ ದಾವೀದನು ಯೋವಾಬನನ್ನೂ ಅವನ ಸಂಗಡವಿದ್ದ ಅವನ ಸೇವಕರನ್ನೂ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರನ್ನೂ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದನು; ಅವರು ಅಮ್ಮೋನನ ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಸಂಹ ರಿಸಿ ರಬ್ಬಕ್ಕೆ ಮುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಹಾಕಿದರು. ಆದರೆ ದಾವೀದನು ಇನ್ನೂ ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಕಾದಿದ್ದನು.
2. 2ಆಗ ಆದದ್ದೇನಂದರೆ, ದಾವೀದನು ಒಂದು ದಿನ ಸಾಯಂಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಹಾಸಿಗೆಯಿಂದ ಎದ್ದು ಅರಮನೆಯ ಉಪ್ಪರಿಗೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ತಿರುಗಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಇರುವಾಗ ಸ್ನಾನಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಒಬ್ಬ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯನ್ನು ಉಪ್ಪರಿಗೆಯ ಮೇಲಿನಿಂದ ನೋಡಿದನು.
3. 3ಆ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯು ಮಹಾಸೌಂದರ್ಯ ರೂಪವುಳ್ಳವಳಾಗಿದ್ದಳು. ಆಗ ದಾವೀದನು ಆ ಸ್ತ್ರೀ ಯಾರೆಂದು ಕೇಳುವದಕ್ಕೆ--ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದಾಗ ಒಬ್ಬನು--ಅವಳು ಹಿತ್ತಿಯನಾದ ಊರೀಯನ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯಾಗಿರುವ ಎಲೀಯಾಮನ ಮಗಳಾದ ಬತ್ಷೆಬೆಯಲ್ಲವೋ ಅಂದನು.
4. 4ದಾವೀದನು ದೂತರನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿ ಅವಳನ್ನು ಕರೆಯಿಸಿದನು. ಅವಳು ಅವನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬಂದಾಗ ಅವಳು ತನ್ನ ಮೈಲಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ಕಳಕೊಂಡು ಶುಚಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದದರಿಂದ ದಾವೀದನು ಅವಳ ಸಂಗಡ ಮಲಗಿದನು.
