And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, [Is] your father yet alive? have ye [another] brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?

2. 6ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲನು--ನಿಮಗೆ ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬ ತಮ್ಮನು ಇದ್ದಾನೆಂದು ನೀವು ಯಾಕೆ ಆ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿಗೆ ಹೇಳಿ ನನಗೆ ಕೇಡು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೀರಿ ಅಂದದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ
3. 7ಅವರು ಅವನಿಗೆ--ಆ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ನಮ್ಮ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ನಮ್ಮ ವಂಶದ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಕೇಳಿ--ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆ ಇನ್ನೂ ಬದುಕಿದ್ದಾನೋ? ನಿಮಗೆ ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬ ಸಹೋದರನು ಇದ್ದಾನೋ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿ ದನು. ಆಗ ಈ ಮಾತುಗಳಿಗೆ ತಕ್ಕ ಹಾಗೆ ನಾವು ಅವನಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿದೆವು. ನಿಮ್ಮ ತಮ್ಮನನ್ನು ಕರಕೊಂಡು ಬನ್ನಿರಿ ಎಂದು ಅವನು ನಮಗೆ ಹೇಳುವನೆಂದು ನಮಗೆ ಹೇಗೆ ತಿಳಿಯುವದು ಅಂದರು.
4. 8ಯೆಹೂದನು ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯಾದ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲನಿಗೆ--ಆ ಹುಡುಗ ನನ್ನು ನನ್ನ ಸಂಗಡ ಕಳುಹಿಸು; ನಾವು ಹೊರಟು ಹೋಗುವೆವು. ನಾವೂ ನೀನೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಮಕ್ಕಳೂ ಸಾಯದೆ ಬದುಕುವೆವು.
5. 9ನಾನು ಅವನಿಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಹೊಣೆಯಾಗಿರುವೆನು. ನೀನು ಅವನ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನನ್ನೇ ಕೇಳಬಹುದು. ನಾನು ಅವನನ್ನು ನಿನ್ನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ತಂದು ನಿನ್ನೆದುರಿಗೆ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸದಿದ್ದರೆ ಎಂದೆಂದಿಗೂ ನಾನು ಆ ಅಪರಾಧವನ್ನು ಹೊರುವೆನು.
