ಆದರೆ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನು ದಾವೀದನ ಸಂತಾನದಿಂದಲೂ ದಾವೀದನಿದ್ದ ಬೇತೆಹೇಮೆಂಬ ಊರಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಬರುವನೆಂದು ಬರಹವು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದಲ್ಲವೇ? ಅಂದರು.

40ಆದದರಿಂದ ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಅನೇಕರು ಈ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ--ಈತನು ನಿಜವಾಗಿಯೂ ಆ ಪ್ರವಾದಿ ಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ ಅಂದರು.
41ಬೇರೆಯವರು--ಈತನೇ ಆ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನು ಅಂದರು. ಆದರೆ ಕೆಲವರು--ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನು ಗಲಿಲಾಯದಿಂದ ಬರುವನೋ?
42ಆದರೆ ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನು ದಾವೀದನ ಸಂತಾನದಿಂದಲೂ ದಾವೀದನಿದ್ದ ಬೇತೆಹೇಮೆಂಬ ಊರಿನಿಂದಲೂ ಬರುವನೆಂದು ಬರಹವು ಹೇಳುತ್ತದಲ್ಲವೇ? ಅಂದರು.
43ಹೀಗೆ ಆತನ ನಿಮಿತ್ತ ವಾಗಿ ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಭೇದ ಉಂಟಾಯಿತು;
44ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವರು ಆತನನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿಯಬೇಕೆಂದಿದ್ದರು; ಆದರೆ ಯಾರೂ ಆತನ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೈ ಹಾಕಲಿಲ್ಲ.
