1. 4ಅವರು ಬಾಳ್‌ಬೆರೀತಿನ ಮನೆಯೊಳ ಗಿಂದ ಎಪ್ಪತ್ತು ಬೆಳ್ಳಿಯ ನಾಣ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟರು. ಅವುಗಳಿಂದ ಅಬೀಮೆಲೆಕನು ನಿಷ್ಪ್ರಯೋಜಕರನ್ನೂ ಬೆಲೆಯಿಲ್ಲದವರನ್ನೂ ಸಂಬಳಕ್ಕೆ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡನು. ಅವರು ಅವನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಹೋದರು.
2. 5ಅವನು ಒಫ್ರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ತನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರರಾದ ಯೆರುಬ್ಬಾಳನ ಎಪ್ಪತ್ತು ಮಂದಿ ಕುಮಾರರನ್ನು ಒಂದು ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೊಂದು ಹಾಕಿದನು. ಆದರೆ ಯೆರುಬ್ಬಾಳನ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಮಗನಾದ ಯೋತಾಮನು ಒಬ್ಬನೇ ಉಳಿದನು; ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಅವನು ಅಡಗಿಕೊಂಡನು.
3. 6ಶೆಕೆಮಿನ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಮಿಲ್ಲೋನಿನ ಮನೆಯವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಕೂಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗಿ ಶೆಕೆಮಿನ ಬೈಲಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಸ್ತಂಭದ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಬೀಮೆಲೆಕನನ್ನು ಅರಸನನ್ನಾಗಿ ನೇಮಿಸಿದರು.
4. 7ಯೋತಾಮನಿಗೆ ಇದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಿದಾಗ ಅವನು ಹೋಗಿ ಗೆರಿಜ್ಜೀಮ್‌ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಏರಿ ನಿಂತು ಗಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಕೂಗಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ--ಶೆಕೆಮಿನ ಜನರೇ, ದೇವರು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮೊರೆ ಕೇಳುವ ಹಾಗೆ ನನ್ನ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿರಿ.
5. 8ಮರಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ಅರಸನನ್ನು ಅಭಿಷೇ ಕಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಹೊರಟು ಹೋಗಿ ಇಪ್ಪೆಯ ಮರಕ್ಕೆ--ನೀನು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಆಳು ಅಂದವು.
