ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಿರಿಯವನು ತನ್ನ ತಂದೆಗೆ--ಅಪ್ಪಾ, ಆಸ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನನಗೆ ಬರತಕ್ಕ ಪಾಲನ್ನು ಕೊಡು ಅಂದನು; ಆಗ ಅವನು ತನ್ನ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಅವರಿಗೆ ವಿಭಾಗಿಸಿದನು.
Avaralli kiriyavanu tanna tandege--appaa, aastiyalli nanage baratakka paalannu kodu andanu; aaga avanu tanna badukannu avarige vibhaagisidanu.

- 13ಕೆಲವೇ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಿರೀ ಮಗನು ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಕೂಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ದೂರದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಮಾಡಿ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ದುಂದುಗಾರನಾಗಿ ಜೀವಿಸಿ ತನ್ನ ಆಸ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಹಾಳುಮಾಡಿಬಿಟ್ಟನು.
- 14ಅವನು ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನು ವೆಚ್ಚ ಮಾಡಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆ ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಘೋರವಾದ ಬರ ಉಂಟಾಯಿತು. ಹೀಗೆ ಅವನು ಕೊರತೆ ಪಡಲಾರಂಭಿಸಿದನು.
