അവർ ഈയം ഇട്ടു ഇരുപതു മാറെന്നു കണ്ടു; കുറയ അപ്പുറം പോയിട്ടു വീണ്ടും ഈയം ഇട്ടു പതിനഞ്ചു മാറെന്നു കണ്ടു.

Avar eeyam ittu irupatu maarennu kantu; kuraya appuram poyittu veentum eeyam ittu patinanychu maarennu kantu.

King James Version (KJV): And sounded, and found [it] twenty fathoms: and when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found [it] fifteen fathoms.

26എങ്കിലും നാം ഒരു ദ്വീപിന്മേൽ മുട്ടി വീഴേണ്ടതാകുന്നു.
27പതിന്നാലാം രാത്രിയായപ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങൾ അദ്രിയക്കടലിൽ അലയുന്നേരം അർദ്ധരാത്രിയിൽ ഒരു കരെക്കു സമീപിക്കുന്നു എന്നു കപ്പൽക്കാർക്കു തോന്നി.
28അവർ ഈയം ഇട്ടു ഇരുപതു മാറെന്നു കണ്ടു; കുറയ അപ്പുറം പോയിട്ടു വീണ്ടും ഈയം ഇട്ടു പതിനഞ്ചു മാറെന്നു കണ്ടു.
29പാറ സ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ അകപ്പെടും എന്നു പേടിച്ചു അവർ അമരത്തു നിന്നു നാലു നങ്കൂരം ഇട്ടു, നേരം വെളുപ്പാൻ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
30എന്നാൽ കപ്പൽക്കാർ കപ്പൽ വിട്ടു ഓടിപ്പോകുവാൻ വിചാരിച്ചു അണിയത്തുനിന്നു നങ്കൂരം ഇടുവാൻ പോകുന്നു എന്നുള്ള ഭാവത്തിൽ തോണി കടലിൽ ഇറക്കി.
