23शाऊल और योनातन जीवनकाल में तो प्रिय और मनभाऊ थे, और अपनी मृत्यु के समय अलग न हुए; वे उकाब से भी वेग चलनेवाले, और सिंह से भी अधिक पराक्रमी थ्ो़।
24हे इस्राएली स्त्रियो, शाऊल के लिये रोओ, वह तो तुम्हें लाल रंग के वस्त्र पहिनाकर सुख देता, और तुम्हारे वस्त्रों के ऊपर सोने के गहने पहिनाता था।
25हाय, युद्ध के बीच शूरवीर कैसे काम आए! हे योनातन, हे ऊंचे स्थानों पर जूझे हुए,
26हे मेरे भाई योनातन, मैं तेरे कारण दु:खित हूँ; तू मुझे बहुत मनभाऊ जान पड़ता था; तेरा प्रेम मुझ पर अद्भुत, वरन स्त्रियों के प्रेम से भी बढ़कर था।
27हाय, शूरवीर क्योंकर गिर गए, और युद्ध के हथियार कैसे नाश हो गए हैं!
