അതിന്നു യോഹന്നാൻ: ഞാൻ വെള്ളത്തിൽ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാൽ നിങ്ങൾ അറിയാത്ത ഒരുത്തൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിൽ നില്ക്കുന്നുണ്ടു;

Atinnu yohannaan: nyaan vellattil snaanam kazhippikkunnu; ennaal ningngal ariyaatta oruttan ningngalute itayil nilkkunnuntu;

25എന്നാൽ നീ ക്രിസ്തുവല്ല, ഏലീയാവല്ല, ആ പ്രവാചകനും അല്ല എന്നു വരികിൽ നീ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു അവർ ചോദിച്ചു.
26അതിന്നു യോഹന്നാൻ: ഞാൻ വെള്ളത്തിൽ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാൽ നിങ്ങൾ അറിയാത്ത ഒരുത്തൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിൽ നില്ക്കുന്നുണ്ടു;
27എന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നവൻ തന്നേ; അവന്റെ ചെരിപ്പിന്റെ വാറു അഴിപ്പാൻ ഞാൻ യോഗ്യൻ അല്ല എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.
28ഇതു യോർദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ യോഹന്നാൻ സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്ന ബേഥാന്യയിൽ സംഭവിച്ചു.
