సౌలుమీద యుద్ధముచేయబోయిన ఫిలిష్తీయులతో కూడ దావీదు వచ్చినప్పుడు మనష్షే సంబం ధులలో కొందరును అతని పక్షముచేరిరి; దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీ యులకు సహాయము చేయకపోయెను, ఏలయనగా అతడు తన యజమానుడైన సౌలు పక్షమునకు మరలి తమకు ప్రాణ హాని చేయునని యెంచి ఫిలిష్తీయుల అధికారులు అతని పంపివేసిరి.

King James Version (KJV): And there fell [some] of Manasseh to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle: but they helped them not: for the lords of the Philistines upon advisement sent him away, saying, He will fall to his master Saul to [the jeopardy of] our heads.
World English Bible (WEB): Some of Manasseh also joined David when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle, but they didn’t help them, for the lords of the Philistines sent him away after consultation, saying, “He will desert to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads.”

17దావీదు బయలుదేరి వారికి ఎదురుగా పోయి వారితో ఇట్లనెనుమీరు సమాధానము కలిగి నాకు సహాయముచేయుటకై నాయొద్దకు వచ్చియున్నయెడల నా హృదయము మీతో అతికియుండును; అట్లుగాక నా వలన మీకు అపకారమేదియు కలుగలేదని యెరిగి యుండియు, నన్ను నా శత్రువులచేతికి అప్పగింపవలెనని మీరు వచ్చియున్నయెడల మన పితరులయొక్క దేవుడు దీనిని చూచి మిమ్మును గద్దించును గాక.
18అప్పుడు ముప్పదిమందికి అధిపతియైన అమాశై ఆత్మవశుడైదావీదూ, మేము నీవారము; యెష్షయి కుమారుడా, మేము నీ పక్షమున ఉన్నాము; నీకు సమాధానము కలుగునుగాక, సమా ధానము కలుగునుగాక, నీ సహకారులకును సమాధానము కలుగునుగాక, నీ దేవుడే నీకు సహాయము చేయునని పలు కగా దావీదు వారిని చేర్చుకొని వారిని తన దండునకు అధిపతులుగా చేసెను.
19సౌలుమీద యుద్ధముచేయబోయిన ఫిలిష్తీయులతో కూడ దావీదు వచ్చినప్పుడు మనష్షే సంబం ధులలో కొందరును అతని పక్షముచేరిరి; దావీదు ఫిలిష్తీ యులకు సహాయము చేయకపోయెను, ఏలయనగా అతడు తన యజమానుడైన సౌలు పక్షమునకు మరలి తమకు ప్రాణ హాని చేయునని యెంచి ఫిలిష్తీయుల అధికారులు అతని పంపివేసిరి.
20అంతట అతడు సిక్లగునకు తిరిగి పోవుచుండగా మనష్షే సంబంధులైన అద్నా యోజాబాదు, యెదీయవేలు, మిఖాయేలు, యోజాబాదు, ఎలీహు, జిల్లెతై అను మనష్షే గోత్రపువారికి అధిపతులు అతని పక్షముచేరిరి.
21వారందరును పరాక్రమ శాలులును సైన్యాధిపతులునై యుండిరి; ఆ దండును హతముచేయుటకు వారు దావీదునకు సహాయముచేసిరి.
