1ఆ సమయమందు చతుర్థాధిపతియైన హేరోదు యేసునుగూర్చిన సమాచారము విని
2ఇతడు బాప్తిస్మమిచ్చు యోహాను; అతడు మృతులలోనుండి లేచి యున్నాడు; అందువలననే అద్భుతములు అతనియందు క్రియారూపకములగుచున్నవని తన సేవకులతో చెప్పెను.

4హేరోదు ఆమె నిమిత్తము యోహానును పట్టుకొని బంధించి చెరసాలలో వేయించి యుండెను.
5అతడు ఇతని చంపగోరెను గాని జనసమూహము ఇతనిని ప్రవక్తయని యెంచినందున వారికి భయపడెను.
