1. இதினிமித்தம் புருஷன் தன் தகப்பனையும் தன் தாயையும் விட்டு, தன் மனைவியோடே இசைந்திருப்பான்; அவர்கள் ஒரே மாம்சமாயிருப்பார்கள்.

   Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

2. ஒண்டியாயிருப்பதிலும் இருவர் கூடியிருப்பது நலம்; அவர்களுடைய பிரயாசத்தினால் அவர்களுக்கு நல்ல பலனுண்டாகும். ஒருவன் விழுந்தால் அவன் உடனாளி அவனைத் தூக்கிவிடுவான்; ஒண்டியாயிருந்து விழுகிறவனுக்கு ஐயோ, அவனைத் தூக்கிவிடத் துணையில்லையே. இரண்டுபேராய்ப் படுத்துக்கொண்டிருந்தால் அவர்களுக்குச் சூடுண்டாகும்; ஒண்டியாயிருக்கிறவனுக்குச் சூடுண்டாவது எப்படி? ஒருவனை யாதாமொருவன் மேற்கொள்ள வந்தால் இருவரும் அவனுக்கு எதிர்த்துநிற்கலாம்; முப்புரிநூல் சீக்கிரமாய் அறாது.

   Two [are] better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him [that is] alone when he falleth; for [he hath] not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm [alone]? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

3. அன்பு நீடிய சாந்தமும் தயவுமுள்ளது; அன்புக்குப் பொறாமையில்லை; அன்பு தன்னைப் புகழாது, இறுமாப்பாயிராது, அயோக்கியமானதைச் செய்யாது, தற்பொழிவை நாடாது, சினமடையாது, தீங்கு நினையாது, அநியாயத்தில் சந்தோஷப்படாமல், சத்தியத்தில் சந்தோஷப்படும். சகலத்தையும் தாங்கும், சகலத்தையும் விசுவாசிக்கும், சகலத்தையும் நம்பும், சகலத்தையும் சகிக்கும்.

   Charity suffereth long, [and] is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

4. புருஷர்களே, உங்கள் மனைவிகளில் அன்புகூருங்கள்; அப்படியே கிறிஸ்துவும் சபையில் அன்புகூர்ந்து,

   Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

5. இவை எல்லாவற்றின்மேலும், பூரணசற்குணத்தின் கட்டாகிய அன்பைத்தரித்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள்.

   And above all these things [put on] charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

6. மனைவியைக் கண்டடைகிறவன் நன்மையானதைக் கண்டடைகிறான்; கர்த்தரால் தயையும் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுகிறான்.

   [Whoso] findeth a wife findeth a good [thing], and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

7. ஆகையால், தேவன் இணைத்ததை மனுஷன் பிரிக்காதிருக்கக்கடவன் என்றார்.

   What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

8. அதற்கு ரூத்: நான் உம்மைப் பின்பற்றாமல் உம்மைவிட்டுத் திரும்பிப் போவதைக்குறித்து, என்னோடே பேசவேண்டாம்; நீர் போகும் இடத்திற்கு நானும் வருவேன்; நீர் தங்கும் இடத்திலே நானும் தங்குவேன்; உம்முடைய ஜனம் என்னுடைய ஜனம்; உம்முடைய தேவன் என்னுடைய தேவன்.

   And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, [or] to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people [shall be] my people, and thy God my God:

9. திரளான தண்ணீர்கள் நேசத்தை அவிக்கமாட்டாது, வெள்ளங்களும் அதைத் தணிக்கமாட்டாது; ஒருவன் தன் வீட்டிலுள்ள ஆஸ்திகளையெல்லாம்நேசத்துக்காகக் கொடுத்தாலும், அது முற்றிலும் அசட்டைபண்ணப்படும்.

   Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if [a] man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

10. எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் மேலாக ஒருவரிலொருவர் ஊக்கமான அன்புள்ளவர்களாயிருங்கள்; அன்பு திரளான பாவங்களை மூடும்.

    And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

11. கர்த்தர் வீட்டைக் கட்டாராகில், அதைக் கட்டுகிறவர்களின் பிரயாசம் விருதா;

    A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh [but] in vain.

12. குணசாலியான ஸ்திரீயைக் கண்டுபிடிப்பவன் யார்? அவளுடைய விலை முத்துக்களைப்பார்க்கிலும் உயர்ந்தது.

    Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price [is] far above rubies.
