மெதுவான பிரதியுத்தரம் உக்கிரத்தை மாற்றும்; கடுஞ்சொற்களோ கோபத்தை எழுப்பும்.
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

ஞானிகளின் நாவு அறிவை உபயோகப்படுத்தும்; மூடரின் வாயோ புத்தியீனத்தைக் கக்கும்.
The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

கர்த்தரின் கண்கள் எவ்விடத்திலுமிருந்து, நல்லோரையும் தீயோரையும்நோக்கிப்பார்க்கிறது.
The eyes of the LORD [are] in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
- 4
ஆரோக்கியமுள்ள நாவு ஜீவவிருட்சம்; நாவின் மாறுபாடோ ஆவியை நொறுக்கும்.
A wholesome tongue [is] a tree of life: but perverseness therein [is] a breach in the spirit.

மூடன் தன் தகப்பன் புத்தியை அலட்சியம்பண்ணுகிறான்; கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலைக் கவனித்து நடக்கிறவனோ விவேகி.
A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
- 6
நீதிமானுடைய வீட்டில் அதிக பொக்கிஷமுண்டு; துன்மார்க்கனுடைய வருமானத்திலோ துன்பமுண்டு.
In the house of the righteous [is] much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

ஞானிகளின் உதடுகள் அறிவை இறைக்கும்; மூடரின் இருதயமோ அப்படியல்ல.
The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish [doeth] not so.
- 8
துன்மார்க்கருடைய பலி கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானது; செம்மையானவர்களின் ஜெபமோ அவருக்குப் பிரியம்.
The sacrifice of the wicked [is] an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright [is] his delight.
- 9
துன்மார்க்கனுடைய வழி கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானது; நீதியைப் பின்பற்றுகிறவனையோ அவர் நேசிக்கிறார்.
The way of the wicked [is] an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.

வழியை விட்டு விலகுகிறவனுக்குப் புத்திமதி விசனமாயிருக்கும்; கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலை வெறுக்கிறவன் சாவான்.
Correction [is] grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: [and] he that hateth reproof shall die.

பாதாளமும் அழிவும் கர்த்தரின் பார்வைக்குப் பிரத்தியட்சமாயிருக்க, மனுபுத்திரருடைய இருதயம் அதிகபிரத்தியட்சமாயிருக்குமல்லவோ?
Hell and destruction [are] before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

பரியாசக்காரன் தன்னைக் கடிந்துகொள்ளுகிறவனை நேசியான்; ஞானவான்களிடத்தில் போகவுமாட்டான்.
A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
- 13
மனமகிழ்ச்சி முகமலர்ச்சியைத் தரும்; மனோதுக்கத்தினாலே ஆவிமுறிந்துபோம்.
A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
- 14
புத்திமானுடைய மனம் அறிவைத்தேடும்; மூடரின் வாயோ மதியீனத்தை மேயும்.
The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
- 15
சிறுமைப்பட்டவனுடைய நாட்களெல்லாம் தீங்குள்ளவைகள்; மனரம்மியமோ நித்திய விருந்து.
All the days of the afflicted [are] evil: but he that is of a merry heart [hath] a continual feast.
- 16
சஞ்சலத்தோடு கூடிய அதிகப் பொருளிலும், கர்த்தரைப் பற்றும் பயத்தோடு கூடிய கொஞ்சப்பொருளே உத்தமம்.
Better [is] little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.
- 17
பகையோடிருக்கும் கொழுத்த எருதின் கறியைப்பார்க்கிலும், சிநேகத்தோடிருக்கும் இலைக்கறியே நல்லது.
Better [is] a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
- 18
கோபக்காரன் சண்டையை எழுப்புகிறான்; நீடியசாந்தமுள்ளவனோ சண்டையை அமர்த்துகிறான்.
A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but [he that is] slow to anger appeaseth strife.
- 19
சோம்பேறியின் வழி முள்வேலிக்குச் சமானம்; நீதிமானுடைய வழியோ ராஜபாதை.
The way of the slothful [man is] as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous [is] made plain.
- 20
ஞானமுள்ள மகன் தகப்பனைச் சந்தோஷப்படுத்துகிறான்; மதியற்ற மனுஷனோ தன் தாயை அலட்சியம்பண்ணுகிறான்.
A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
- 21
மூடத்தனம் புத்தியீனனுக்குச் சந்தோஷம்; புத்திமானோ தன் நடக்கையைச் செம்மைப்படுத்துகிறான்.
Folly [is] joy to [him that is] destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.
- 22
ஆலோசனையில்லாமையால் எண்ணங்கள் சித்தியாமற்போம்; ஆலோசனைக்காரர் அநேகர் இருந்தால் அவைகள் உறுதிப்படும்.
Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
- 23
மனுஷனுக்குத் தன் வாய்மொழியினால் மகிழ்ச்சியுண்டாகும்; ஏற்றகாலத்தில் சொன்ன வார்த்தை எவ்வளவு நல்லது!
A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word [spoken] in due season, how good [is it]!

கீழான பாதாளத்தை விட்டு விலகும்படி, விவேகிக்கு ஜீவவழியானது உன்னதத்தை நோக்கும் வழியாம்.
The way of life [is] above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
- 25
அகங்காரியின் வீட்டைக் கர்த்தர் பிடுங்கிப்போடுவார்; விதவையின் எல்லையையோ நிலைப்படுத்துவார்.
The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.
- 26
துன்மார்க்கருடைய நினைவுகள் கர்த்தருக்கு அருவருப்பானவைகள்; சுத்தவான்களுடைய வார்த்தைகளோ இன்பமானவைகள்.
The thoughts of the wicked [are] an abomination to the LORD: but [the words] of the pure [are] pleasant words.

பொருளாசைக்காரன் தன் வீட்டைக் கலைக்கிறான்; பரிதானங்களை வெறுக்கிறவனோ பிழைப்பான்.
He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
- 28
நீதிமானுடைய மனம் பிரதியுத்தரம் சொல்ல யோசிக்கும்; துன்மார்க்கனுடைய வாயோ தீமைகளைக் கொப்பளிக்கும்.
The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

துன்மார்க்கருக்குக் கர்த்தர் தூரமாயிருக்கிறார்; நீதிமான்களின் ஜெபத்தையோ கேட்கிறார்.
The LORD [is] far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
- 30
கண்களின் ஒளி இருதயத்தைப் பூரிப்பாக்கும்; நற்செய்தி எலும்புகளைப்புஷ்டியாக்கும்.
The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: [and] a good report maketh the bones fat.
- 31
ஜீவனுக்கேதுவான கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும் காது ஞானிகளிடத்தே தங்கும்.
The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
- 32
புத்திமதியைத் தள்ளிவிடுகிறவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவை வெறுக்கிறான்; கடிந்துகொள்ளுதலைக் கேட்கிறவனோ ஞானமடைவான்.
He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

கர்த்தருக்குப் பயப்படுதல் ஞானத்தைப் போதிக்கும்; மேன்மைக்கு முன்னானது தாழ்மை.
The fear of the LORD [is] the instruction of wisdom; and before honour [is] humility.
